Juneteenth - An Interactive Display In-Person

Join us in the meeting room at the library as we celebrate the history of Juneteenth and its meaning to local community members.  Our event includes a continuous screening of the film, "I am the Hope and Dream" by Remy Styrk, which captures the perspective of local community members on the significance of Juneteenth. We will also display a replica of a quilt used during the underground railroad. These quilts conveyed vital information to enslaved people who fled the plantation and often could not read or write. Messaging had to be memorized and passed along by word of mouth using codes, signs, and symbols. We will also have a Juneteenth flag coloring contest for the kids.

This is a drop-in program so feel free to come in anytime between 1-4pm for this interactive experience.

This program is sponsored by Connect Ferndale. The mission of Connect Ferndale is to cultivate community growth and connection through civic participation and community building to advance inclusion, honor diversity, and encourage participation for everyone.

Reminder: All WCLS libraries will be closed on June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.
